ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Wednesday said cordial relation with Germany was pivotal to Pakistan’s outreach to Europe. He said this while speaking to Ambassador of Germany, Ina Lepel, in Parliament House on Wednesday.
The speaker urged the need for substantial and concrete engagement on pressing issues prevalent in the region and beyond.
While appreciating the interest of Germany in a vibrant and inclusive Pakistani democracy, the speaker remarked that the political leadership of Pakistan is committed to cement political engagement of Pakistan and Germany for strengthening democratic governance.
While admiring hospitality of Germany extended to Pakistan’s Parliamentary delegation led by Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, he remarked that there is an immense scope of furthering people-to-people contact.
He expressed satisfaction with the pace of political and economic cooperation between the two countries. Sadiq underlined the need for expansion of economic relations through sustained engagement of chambers of commerce and other business forums. Pakistan is keen to benefit from Germany’s scientific and educational expertise to ensure genuine human development in Pakistan, he said.
The NA speaker condemned to latest wave of terrorist attacks in Europe. The public of Pakistan stands in solidarity with European citizens, he said.
The speaker said that Pakistani political and military leadership has demonstrated an unflinching commitment to eliminate terrorism from its soil.
While referring to cementing cooperation with Germany, the speaker said that parliamentary engagement between the two nations is the bedrock of robust relation between the two countries and he further urged the need for regular exchange of parliamentary delegations.
German Ambassador Ina Lepel endorsed NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s proposal for regular exchange of parliamentary delegations and cementing people-to-people contact.
Germany considers Pakistan a partner in South Asia for furthering genuine human development, she said. She suggested that Germany is keen to partner with Pakistan in achieving sustainable development goals and further appreciated the establishment of secretariat of SDGs at National Assembly of Pakistan for fast progress on the stated objectives.
Ina Lepel acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices in global war on terror and said that Germany would continue to support Pakistan at the regional as well as international level in its endeavours for promoting peace, democracy and economic
development.
