KABUL – Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani has called on Pakistan to battle the Taliban rather than try to bring them into peace talks.
Ashraf Ghani said while addressing to the parliament on Monday, a week after a Taliban assault on the Afghan capital, Kabul, killed 64 people and wounded another 340. Ghani said that there were no good or bad terrorists, they are just terrorists, adding that Pakistan must understand that and act against them.
Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the United States have been trying to revive peace talks between Kabul and the Taliban in recent months, but have made little progress.
It may be mentioned here that Eighteen months into Pakistan’s military operation Zarb-e-Azb launched against militants, the military’s media wing claimed 3,400 militants have been killed so far. In December 12, 2015, Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Lt Gen Asim Bajwa tweeted that 3,400 terrorists killed, 837 hideouts from where they were carrying out their terrorist activities destroyed.
